Seraikela : Cyclone Phailin has compounded the plight of flood victims in Seraikela Kharswan district. The affected villagers are finding it hard to cope with the situation as administration is yet to take steps for relief. Swelling rivers which had crossed danger mark on Saturday and Sunday.
Several houses were destroyed during the heavy rainfall. Moreover several areas are yet to receive the electricity.
Malti Tudu, a widow who has taken shelter on the road, said her thatched house was completely damaged and all her belongings were washed away in the flood water. “The administration is yet to provide cooked food after two days. I do not have anything left with me,” she said.
Local people said that said that the relief operations was poor, no control room was set up and there was poor coordination with the administration which was fully involved in salvaging the victims.
However, the cyclone caused widespread damage to crops and infrastructure. At this moment, the people affected in the region need help to tide over the calamity, to survive and rebuild their lives
