Ranchi: The Jharkhand bandh called by the various tribal organizations of the state was partially successful on Saturday.
Various groups of bandh supporters took to the streets and forced commercial establishments to bring down their shutters. Sporadic incidents of violence were reported at several places in the state Capital and other districts of the state.
The bandh supporters burnt tyres to block roads at several places in the Capital and also smashed the windscreens of vehicles here and there. Police arrested many bandh supporters and later released them on personal bond.
The bandh adversely affected the plying of commercial vehicles in the city. People had a tough time as they could not get vehicles to reach their destination owing to the bandh.
Most schools had announced a bandh today. The president of Adivasi Jan Parishad Premshahi Munda said the state government should define a domicile policy soon.
He said the next time the outfit will call a statewide bandh for three days in support of the demand for a domicile policy.
The bandh supporters alleged that many unemployed youths were bearing the brunt of joblessness as a result of delay by the state government to formulate a domicile policy in the state.
The bandh was supported by Jharkhand Disom Party, Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch, Adivasi Chhatra Sangathan, Akhil Vidyarthi Vikas Parishad, Adivasi Moolvasi Jan Sangathan, Kurmi Adhikar Morcha, Adivasi Morcha and many Left-wing organizations.
