Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders and legislators Hemlal Murmu and Vidyut Varan Mahato today announced their decision to resign from the Jharkhand Assembly following pressures by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha president Babulal Marandi and several other political parties.
The MLA of Barhet Hemlal Murmu faxed a letter regarding his resignation from the membership of the Assembly to Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta. The Baharagora MLA Vidyutvaran Mahato called up the Speaker and apprised him of his decision to tender his resignation. The Speaker said the resignation of Hemlal Murmu had been accepted while that of Vidyut Varan was yet to be received. Once received, the resignation will be accepted, he said.
It may be mentioned here that the Jharkhand Speaker had taken note of the fact that the two JMM legislators had continued to be legislators despite leaving the JMM. Hemlal Murmu has been made the Parliamentary election candidate of BJP from Rajmahal constituency while Vidyut Varan has been given a BJP ticket from Jamshedpur seat.
Yesterday, former Congress leader and Vishrampur MLA Chandrashekhar Dubey had resigned from Jharkhand Assembly membership. He tendered his resignation to the Speaker. He has joined Trinamool Congress after quitting the Congress.
Now the Hemant Soren government enjoys the support of only 40 MLAs in the 82 member Assembly. Two other MLAs Bandhu Tirkey and Chamra Linda continue to lend support to the state government even after joining Trinamool Congress.
