Ranchi: Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, Amit Khare, on Monday said the state government will guarantee education loan over Rs 7.5 lakh for SC/ST and OBC students from the next academic year.
Khare said that banks provide education loan up to 7.5 lakh without collaterals but above that, they demand collateral that is third party guarantee. Because of this, the SC/ST/OBC students face difficulty in taking loan for education, he said, adding that in order to sort out this problem, the government has provisioned Jharkhand Education Loan Guarantee Scheme under which, a student can take education loan over Rs 7.5 lakh on government guarantee.
Khare said that as decided in the meeting, SLBC will make a portal for education loan. “All applications will be put on this portal and reviewed weekly. A list of educational institutions including all IIT, NIT, AIIMS, central institutions and state level approved institutions will be made for eligibility of education loan. Students who want to avail education loan up to Rs. 7.5 lakh, they will be given loan without guarantee as per existing system,” he said.
Khare directed Higher Education Department authorities to make a list of institutions that have education loan facility for students. He said that all application should be submitted with Aadhar number.
Welfare Secretary Himani Pandey, Secretary (expenditure) Satendra Singh, SLBC GM Prasad Joshi, Tribal Welfare Commissioner Gauri Shankar Minz and officers of Welfare Dept. were present in the meeting.
