Ranchi, April 2: A man in Hazaribagh district on Thursday tested positive to COVID-19, the second confirmed case of coronavirus in Jharkhand, Deputy Commissioner Bhubanesh Pratap Singh said here. The DC said that the man, who is in his thirties, reached Bishnugarh in the district from West Bengal on foot on March 29.
“After a medical check-up by the doctors, his swab samples were sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi and the test report was found positive,” Singh said. The authorities will now perform screen of all the other members of his family, including relatives and the people with whom he had remained in contact after coming back. for the infection and quarantine them for 14 days.
A 22-year-old Malaysian woman had tested positive to COVID-19 on March 31 in Ranchi.
She was among the 24 persons found staying in a mosque in the capital city. The patient is a young woman with a history of travel to Malaysia.
She has been admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for medical assistance and isolation.
It may be noted that a senior Minister in Hemant Soren Government, Haji Hussain Ansari, and his family members have been quarantined in Ranchi after the Jharkhand’s Intelligence Department said the minister’s son Tanveer-ul Hasan had attended Tablighi at Nizamuddin in Delhi.
Ansari, who is a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA from Deogarh and is currently Welfare and Minority Affairs Minister in the Soren regime, has, however, denied the charge that he or his son ever visited Delhi. However, the Special Branch police has submitted to the police headquarters a list of Jharkhand residents who attended Tablighi at Nizamuddin. As per the list, the minister’s son Tanveer-ul Hasan and another person Mohammad Abbas (from Deogarh) attended the religious congregation at Nizamuddin.
The Jharkhand government has set up a 557-bed isolation ward for COVID-19 patients in different hospitals of the State. The State has also set up 1,469 been quarantine centres at different places.
