Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today released the Jharkhand State Women Policy- 2014, a government initiative against the injustice happening against women since time immemorial.

Soren also declared celebration of Women’s Rights Day on 15th October every year. “This day will be acknowledged as an official holiday for women and steps will be taken to review various activities for empowering women,” he said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Women’s Rights Day at Athletics Stadium, Khelgaon, Hotwar. Soren said the government had taken a pledge to provide equal opportunities for the overall development of women.

The CM the Women’s Policy aims to strengthen the state by empowering women. In every religion, women are being worshipped as the symbol of strength, wisdom and prosperity which is conflicting the real fact where women are being harassed in day to day life. Women are the alma mater of education, foundation stone of human values. By educating women, we can educate society which will help in the development of society.

Soren said the state government had decided to provide 50% reservation for employment on the post of Panchayat Sachiv (secretary) and primary teachers. He stressed on the revolutionary decision of providing 50% reservation in home guard and 33% reservation on the post of constable in police force. He also concentrated on providing free education to all girls in medical and engineering colleges and higher technical institutions.

Reciting an example Soren said that there is 7% unemployment among women in the country. Women constitute only 26% workforce of the country, their overall representation in the Central job is mere 10% only whereas their total population is arout 65 crores.

The CM said that he will appeal the Prime Minister to provide 50% reservation to women in all Central jobs to make India a real super power. Women work just not for their survival instead they work for their family. Whenever given responsibility, they will not only work for the salary but for the country.

Colourful balloons were flying in the sky by the dignitaries which signified the enormous opportunities for women. Sarees were distributed to ten women beneficiaries under the scheme of dhoti-saree. Pre-school educational kits were also given to Anganwadi workers.

Health Minister Rajendra Singh said 10,000 cycles and scooties had been provided to sahiyas. 366 nurses are being permanently appointed and 195 more nurses will be soon employed.

Social Welfare Minister, Annapurna Devi appreciated this pioneer step for empowering women. She said that Women Policy will provide benefit to each and every section of women and will be a great milestone. The children, adults, expectant women and old ladies will also be benefitted.

Ready to eat packets will be provided to children. Pre-school educational kits will be provided in Anganwadi centres in rural areas. This is the initiative of government for setting up infrastructure like private institutions. There will be distinguished uniform for identification of Anganwadi sevikas and sahiyas.

Devi stressed on the women’s helpline “Umang” for women facing harassment in the state. Social Welfare Department is the nodal Department for facilitating this helpline. A sum of Rs 30,000 (Rs 15,000 earlier) and a 15 gm gold coin will be provided to the beneficiary under Kanyadan scheme which gives a message that girls are not burden anymore.

Principal Secretrary, Welfare Department, Sunil Barnwal said the Women’s Policy focuses on maintaining sex ratio, increasing literacy rate of women, allocation of budget for women scheme and special programme for women.

Co-operative Minister Haji Hussain Ansari, Transport Minister, Champai Soren, Urban Development Minister, Suresh Paswan, Agriculture Minister, Banna Gupta, Director, Social Welfare Department, Pooja Singhal, Chairperson, Jharkhand Women’s Commission, Mahua Manjhi, DC, Ranchi, Vinay Choubey and other officials were present in the programme.

The anganwadi workers, sahiyas, students of polytechnic, engineering and medical colleges from various districts were also present on the occasion.
