Ranchi: Unidentified dacoits wreaked havoc in the house of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Soni Tabassum in Chanho by robbing away cash and jewelry worth several lakhs and allegedly gang-raping female members in the house in the wee hours of Monday. They also set a new car afire before leaving the scene.
Sources said the incident took place around 1 am when 20-22 armed people barged into the house of Tabassum and went on rampage for several hours. The culprits took away all the valuables from the house and also assaulted the female members criminally. They torched the newly-bought car kept in the house.
Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and begun an investigation into the incident. They suspect the role of local criminals in the incident. They are looking for the local links of the culprits who could have given a whiff of the household activities to the criminals.
A police team reached the crime scene in the morning with sniffer dogs and began investigation into the incident. The alleged rape victims were sent to government hospital for medical examination.
Sources said the husband of Soni Tabassum opened the window on hearing knocking on the door. One of the culprits pulled a rifle on him and forced the family members to open the main door. Soon the culprits entered the house and ran riot for hours. They vandalized many household goods and also assaulted the family members. They also beat up Tabassum on being shown resistance.
Tabassum said she could identify the culprits. She demanded speedy probe and action against the culprits.
