Jamshedpur: XLRI’s boundary wall construction was completed today under strict vigil and security arrangements.

Students from Jamshedpur Cooperative College had agitated against the ongoing construction work of the new international campus of XLRI and forcible halted the process in protest against closing of a thoroughfare by the B-school management.

XLRI had approached the administration after which under tight security arrangements the work was completed.

It may be mentioned that Jamshedpur Cooperative College is situated close to the B school. XLRI was granted 10 acres land by Tata Steel in 2008 for its new campus.

Recently XLRI had expressed concern over the security of the campus. XLRI has initiated steps to seal all the outward-facing entrances that might be a potential source of unauthorized infiltration into the campus.

XLRI administrator and financial controller Fr George Fernandes, said they are concerned campus from being used as outsiders and cause security threat to foreign students as part of the global management
program.

“We have taken permission to build boundary wall in view of security threat as the road opens at Marine Drive and Jubilee Park at one end,” he noted.

Accordingly, XLRI submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner explaining all the facts and the reasons for closing all the outward-facing entrances.

Moreover there are roads on either side of the proposed wall leading to the Marine Drive. In view of the past untoward instances and the likelihood of future unauthorized infiltration, XLRI has also intimated all the concerned district authorities regarding the urgent need for round-the clock campus security.
