Jamshedpur : The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in association with JUSCO have initiated an activity-oriented energy education programme called ‘Joining hands for a better world’.
The programme is being implemented in 10 schools located in Jamshedpur and Adityapur, and target students, teachers and parents to sensitize on issues related to energy conservation.
This six-month long project will inspire students of classes 6-8 to take up activities leading to real-time reduction of energy consumption at their schools, homes and community level.
Various non-formal ways of teaching and learning will be applied through workshops, competitions for children, teachers’ training programmes, energy audit, community radio programmes, etc.
As part of the introductory phase, school level knowledge workshops are being conducted in the project schools. Such workshops have been conducted in 8 project schools during the month of October 2013.
This workshop was conducted in the remaining 2 schools (JUSCO School, Kadma and Kerala Public School, Kadma) on December 11 and 12 respectively. Around 280 students participated in each of the workshops.
Senior officials from JUSCO Mr S S Dubey and Mr Sanjay Gautam were also present on the occasion and briefed students about the programme.
The workshops started with an introduction by TERI and JUSCO as well as detailed discussion about the project activities to be conducted in the forthcoming months.
