Jamshedpur, Dec. 2: Tata Steel’s Urban Services in collaboration with various organisations, which work for the people with disabilities in Jamshedpur, will organise a programme to observe International Day of People with Disability at the Dorabji Tata Park here on Thursday.
This year’s theme ‘Celebrating Diversity, Celebrating Inclusiveness’ aims to promote the acceptance of diversity through right attitude, and to develop an environment of inclusiveness for all.
Several programmes will be presented on the occasion, including ‘Walk with Us’, a fashion show featuring people with disability. It will aim to challenge the norm that only people with a certain set of physical features can participate in a fashion show, in addition to inducing a sense of inclusiveness of the other sections of society, giving them an opportunity to express their idea of fashion.
‘Saraswati Musical Group,’ a band of seven visually impaired students is a part of National Association of Blind, Jamshedpur, and the group has performed across eastern India. A group of hearing impaired youths, choreographed by Navomita and Sushmita, will present a dance show to showcase their special understanding of nature. ‘Itnsi si Khushi, Itni si Hansi,’ is an inclusive dance performance. This performance will have both non-disabled and disabled children.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations. The observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cult.
