Jamshedpur : Villagers are protesting against the alleged illegally sand minning in several areas of the district. Under the banner of Manjhi Pargana Mahal staged a protest against the illegal sand mining on Thursday. The protest was carried at a time when the administration was auctioning sand banks among the bidders.
Hundreds of villagers took part in the protest. Villagers have alleged that a few people from villages are carrying out illegal sand mining since past several months. The illicit business is taking place on the basis of temporary license. Because of illegal sand mining carried out in the banks of rivers flowing through these villages, their houses have developed cracks. Nearly 20 houses are in a danger condition so far, they said.
Bahadur Soren said that they have approached the district deputy commissioner alleging illegal sand mining in this area, as the officers in district administration have expressed less interest to receive complaint from them. He warned that his villagers go for an agitation, if the sand mining operations in the region do not cease with immediate effect. The villagers will stage a demonstration at DC office on October 21.
Similarly, possibilities of accidents too are increasing due to the increase in the number of trucks, he said. “The department, which do not take stringent action against illegal sand mining, cheat people by imposing minimum fine on violators,” he charged and warned that a mass protest will be organised if the district administration do not take the issue seriously.
