Jamshedpur, July 31: Valhalla, the three-day sports cum cultural extravaganza of XLRI, Jamshedpur, concluded on Sunday on positive note.

In accordance with the theme: The Streets Are Calling, the day began with participants speeding down the racing tracks in campus.

Participants hit the streets again, and this time they did it with speed and they did it in style.

‘Laasya’-the solo classical dance competition had the audience enthralled by the mesmerizing dance performances.

Malvika of XLRI was adjudged the best dancer. Raagalay – the solo classical competition overflowed with the melodies of singing sensations and musical instruments.

In Raagalaya vocals, Divya of XLRI won the first prize and Harshal, also of XLRI, won the first prize in Raagalaya instrumental. Apart from this there was a movie debate, a general quiz and fiercely fought sporting events like volleyball and basketball.

The street dance event also attracted a huge crowd. The Street Play competition deserves special mention for the brilliant scripts, amazing acting and powerful portrayal of the vices in society.

Each of the four colleges taking part in this event did a splendid job and clearly got their social message across. The competition was won by NMIMS, Mumbai. Once again the various committees of XLRI like Sports Comm, Dracula, CII-Yi collaborated to host a number of fun events for participants.

The food stalls did brisk business as students queued up in front of the stalls to sample the delectable fare on offer. Visitors and students alike could be seen tucking into mouth-watering crispy cheesy dosas, chocolate gelatos, sinful pastries and much more.

SIGMA dosa, an initiative by SIGMA oikos to raise funds for charity, was particularly popular. There were some stalls selling tribal handicraft items as well.

The highlight of the day was singing sensation Nikhil D’souza, a playback singer, songwriter and guitarist who made his Bollywood debut with the song Shaam from the movie Aisha.

He followed it up with more hits like Anjana Anjani and Break Ke Baad.

XLRI hosted ‘Coke Studio presents Nikhil D’Souza’ to a packed audience in the Tata auditorium.

The singer known for his eclectic acoustic guitar based pop held the audience spellbound with his mellifluous voice and soulful music.

Even as the show wound up, the audience couldn’t get enough of Nikhil D’souza.
