: Budding engineers from across the country have converged at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus in Adityapur to participate in the annual festival, Utkarsh-2014, that started today.

Over 5,000 students from 20 engineering colleges are participating in the three-day festival,
which is being organised by Students’ Activity Section ( SAS), a students body of NIT.Director of NIT, Rambabu Kodali inaugurated Shades, an art contest and the first event of the fest.

A number of events, including quiz, creative writing, antakshari, rangoli, collage, skit,
debate and fashion show, have been lined up.

The event will witness three mega events Distortion-a battle of bands. This year’s prize
money is Rs 40,000.

The second in the lot is the Verve-the fashion show, with prize money of Rs 50,000. The
third mega event is ChoreoNite-a theme dance competition.

This group event has been attracting huge participation and with newer themes/stories to depict through their performance, participants put in loads of effort to bag the jackpot.

A series of literary events include the english and hindi debates. The fine arts events include fraffiti designing, T-shirt designing, face painting, clay sculpture and junk art.

The vocals and dance will witness events like eastern vocals, western vocals, duets and
antakshari.

The dance section will witness solo and duet dance. Events like Nukkad- street play competition and skits will also be organized during the annual festival.

The fest will witness an array of informal events . Informals like sumo wrestling, archery and bowling machine will be organised during the three day extravaganza.

And now moving towards crowd pullers – the revelry will see veteran ‘hasya kavi’ ( poet), Surender Sharma, who will be taking the stage on the Kavi Sammelan night along with three other poets on February 8 on the campus.

Playback singer Javed Ali has also confirmed his participation. The singer will perform
on the concluding day of the fest on February 9.

“The festival has been designed in such a way that it will not only help participants display
their talents, but also have loads of fun,” said NIT spokesperson Rajiv Bhushan.

He added that preparations for the festival have been completed and expressed hope that the event would be a success.
