Jamshedpur: Notwithstanding the new underground parking facility in place, vehicles continue to be parked on the roadside passing through Basant Talkies at Sakchi.

The parking facility has been provided in the New Shopping Complex opened opposite to Basant Talkies. This is arguably the first mall in Jharkhand which has underground parking facility of three floors built at Jamshedpur. The parking facility was opened ten to fifteen days back.

Despite this facility given to the city people, many vehicles may still be seen parked outside the mall, especially the roadside. Even as the signboard of no parking continues to be placed in front of the mall, some people simply do not care to obey it.

Even the traffic constables who have the duty in and around the Basant Talkies area do not take action against owners of the vehicles parked recklessly on the roadside in front of the mall. They are supposed to look after the traffic and parking arrangements but they are only helping the people violate traffic norms.

This is not a problem seen only around the mall. It prevails all over the city. The main road at Sakchi near RD Tata Institute is one of the busiest routes in the city. Here too, there are ‘No Parking’ boards put up on the roadside so that vehicles are not parked on the road. But still many people are parking their vehicles recklessly. As a result, by the evening the road is besieged with huge traffic jam.

Due to unauthorized parking habits, there is less space for the vehicles on the roads due to which traffic jams and other road accident take place, say traffic cops.

“This is the duty of the traffic department to look after this and they are not doing their job properly. Because of their insincerity the people are facing difficult situation on the roads,” said Vijay Sharma, a resident of Golmuri.
