Jamshedpur, Sept. 28: Twin incidents of loot shocked the city on Monday.
Two separate gangs of criminals entered the houses of two businessmen family at Sitaramdera and Kadma police station area this afternoon and spread panic.
In one of the incidents, a two-member criminal gang made an attempt to loot valuables from the house of Ashok Sharma.
They took family members under control and threatened them with bombs at Bhalubasa under Sitaramdera police station area about 12. 30 pm on Monday.
The first incident took place at the flat of Ashok Sharma, owner of a packaging-cum-transport company at Line No 5 in Bhalubasa under Sitaramdera police station area at about 12.30 pm.
In another incident a four-member gang of criminals decamped with ornaments and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees. The criminals took the family members at gun-point in Uliyan under Kadma police station area at 2 pm on Monday and went on a looting spree.
In the Kadma, the criminals succeeded to ran away by locking the victim family in a room after committing the loot, in the Sitaramdera incident the one of the two criminals was caught by the neighbours while the other one managed to run.
According to members of the victim’s family at Bhalubasa, two youths came carrying bags in their back. As the wife of Ashok Sharma opened the door, the criminals forced themselves into the flat and locked the room from inside.
Threatening the family members, one of them took out a bomb like object and told them that they would blow them up if shouted. After having forced the family members, who were Sharma’s wife and his children, they locked them all into a room and started searching for valuables and cash having taken the keys of the almirah from the victim.
In the meantime, a maid servant pressed the alarm bell, leading someone to open the door. As the maid found strangers inside and the sound of cry coming out of a room, she screamed for help. Soon after, some neighbours rushed to the fifth floor of the flat.
As the neighbours reached the spot, the criminals started to run. Incidentally, one of them managed to escape, but another was caught.
The youth who was caught was first thrashed by the neighbours and subsequently was handed over to the police who took him under his custody.
The police seized a bag from the youth, who revealed his name as Sonu Kumar, a resident of Jehanabad district of Bihar. On searching the bag, the police found 10 bombs.
The police said that they are investigating the cases. The gangs seem to be from Bihar. Police are conducting raid to nab the members of the gang.
