Government to augment testing facilities 


Jamshedpur, July 31: As part of its efforts to ramp up the testing capacity, the State Health Department on Friday installed a TrueNat machine for conducting corona tests at MGM Medical Hospital. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had approved the use of TrueNat system for conducting coronavirus tests, while recommending it only as a screening test.

“ We are taking every step to increase testing facilities. TrueNat system is a comprehensive way for screening and confirmation of COVID-19 cases,” said an official.

TrueNat is a small machine that is battery operated and requires minimal training. It can also be easily used in a smaller setting. The machine can easily give the result between 30-60 minutes.

Meanwhile, the State Health Minister Banna Gupta directed the Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum that if any hospital refuses to treat patients, then they must act on such hospitals and cancel its license and register an FIR. He said that the hospitals cannot escape from responsibility.

He said that keeping in view the future spread of the virus, an isolation ward will come up at JRD Tata Sports Complex, SDSM School at Sidgora.

Many COVID cases without travel or contact history are being reported in the city. Coronavirus positive cases are now being detected at every locality and almost all government institutions, including the police establishments as well as the hospitals.

Till today 31 deaths have been reported, while positive cases have crossed 1800. Of the 79 cases, only three had travel history and six out of the remaining 76 persons were tested positive after coming in contact with the Covid patients.  But the remaining 70 persons who have tested positive had neither  any travel history nor had they come in contact with any Covid patient.

The State Government is focusing on scaling up COVID-19 tests in order to curb its spread. Amidst growing positive cases in Kolhan division, Health Minister Banna Gupta convened a meeting to chalk out future action plans. The Minister said that the government is making every effort to protect people from corona infection and that the infected should get better medical facilities. Gupta said that in view of Covid-19, the State Government is continuously expanding medical facilities.


Talking to the media, Gupta gave instructions to increase the corona testing being done at the present time. He said that more and more tests will be conducted and efforts will be made to reach more patients and will be able to treat them.
