Jamshedpur, Dec 10: A woman, identified as Usha Mahato, 50, died in a road accident in Jadugora on Tuesday. She was run over by a truck near Naurang Market. Her father, Subhash Chandra Mahato, survived in the incident.
Sources said the mishap occurred around 4 pm when the father-daughter duo was on its way out of an alley in Naurang Market on a scooter. Subhash Chandra, who drove the two-wheeler, lost his balance when a truck suddenly came before him on the main road. He was thrown apart on the road while his daughter came under the truck’s wheels. While he survived miraculously, his daughter was crushed to a tragic death.
Social worker Upendra Sharma and the officer-in-charge of Jadugora police station, Rajeev Ranjan, took Usha Mahato to UCIL Hospital where she was pronounced brought dead.
Irked over the incident, local residents blocked the Hata-Jadugora main road for several hours to demand compensation for the next of kin of the deceased and measures to prevent road accidents.
