Jamshedpur, Jan 21: A huge tree suddenly fell on the road leading to Sacred Heart Convent School by the side of the Jubilee Park at around 8:30 am when school children were moving towards the educational institution. A lady on a scooter taking her daughter to school passed under the tree seconds before it collapsed. A major accident was providentially averted. This was stated by some people who saw the tree falling and the lady and her child averting the mishap narrowly.
The police, on information, arrived at the spot and asked the Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Ltd to remove the fallen tree. People said that many trees were old and week at the trunks and roots in and around Jubilee Park and they asked TSUSL to cut off those trees and plant new ones in their place.
Old trees are favourite haunts of bees that make their hives on them. Many hives have been spotted in and around the Sacred Heart Convent School. Last year someone pelted a stone at one of the hives and a swarm of bees attacked students. Some of the students received serious sting injuries. While a few of them had to be admitted to Tata Main Hospital others were discharged after initial treatment.
