Jamshedpur, Jan. 7: Tension has gripped slum areas of Burmamines. Several families have left their homes in fear at Shri Ram Ashram and Seva Ashram in Burmamines following section of youths of adjoining slum attacked them late last night.
They have taken shelter at Vinoba Ashram in Burmamines, fearing attack by the residents of other slum, Carriage Colony Muslim Bustee.
One of the victims, who has also taken shelter at Vinoba Ashram along with his family said they had been staying at Shri Ram Ashram since the past five decades, but now it is not possible to stay at homes. The youths from the nearby Carriage Colony Muslim Bustee use to enter into our slum and molest girls.
He said the miscreants coming from the Carriage Colony Muslim Bustee tend to attack the people of Shri Ram Ashram.
“The latest attack started due to a fight between two minor boys over kite-flying might be a reason behind the clash between the two slums. But this has become a regular concern,” said a resident.
According to sources, a quarrel had taken place between two minor boys over kite flying at Shri Ram Ashram on January 4. Soon after the minor quarrel started into a major clash as supporters had joined the two minors who were residents of Shri Ram Ashram and Carriage Colony Muslim Bustee joined them causing the youths from either side resorting to stone-pelting on each other.
Superintendent of police (City) Prabhat Kumar confirmed about residents of Shri Ram Ashram to have vacated their homes, but said that the administration has taken several youths into custody.
