Saraikela, Sept 13: Assistant Teacher of Upgraded Jilinggoda Middle School Chandra Mohan Chowdhary has, in a written complaint to the Deputy Commissioner accused the Block Education Extension Officer (BEEO), Gamharia Kanan Patra of seeking bribe and causing mental torture and demanded a probe and action against the accused official.
In his complaint Chowdhary stated that the then Education Superintendent had vide a letter # 474 of June 17, 2019 had demanded show cause from 140 teachers for claiming house rent applicable in city areas. The complainant stated that an answer duly certified by witnesses was handed to the Education Superintendent on July 1, 2019.
In his letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the Assistant Teacher alleged that he was summoned by the BEEO vide an order dated September 9 to the effect and on September 10 he was handed a letter dated September 7 in which his bill for house rent and travel allowance adding up to Rs 4,82,232 had been passed for payment against which the BEEO demanded Rs 50,000 for sanctioning the amount. Chandra Mohan Chowdhary further alleged that when he refused to cough up the amount BEEO Kanan Patra told him that amounts between Rs 60 and 70 thousand was the target set by higher officials of the department to be collected from teachers on the verge of retirement and in his case, the amount asked for was Rs 50,000. Quoting the BEEO in his complaint letter to the DC, the Assistant Teacher mentioned that the official concerned had warned him that in case of his refusal to pay the amount would result in his being implicated in false cases and that getting his PF and pension would be made complicated.
The Assistant Teacher Chnadra Mohan Chowdhary has made many opthger allegations against BEEO Kanan Patra. It may be mentioned that Patra has been given additional charge of three other major Blocks in the district of Saraikela-Kharsawan. It has been alleged that the Officer takes fat sums as briges from teachers about to retire and in connivance with the Education Superintendent, passes on swhares of the bribe collected to higher officials.
The raqging cold war betwen the BEEO and the Assistant Teacher is a reflection of the status of the District Educatiuon Department’s status at present. The district Teachers’ associations feel the urgency for an investigation into the complaint. Moreover, the teachers are unhappy of the BEEO’s being given additional charge of three other Blocks’ Education Departments.
