Jamshedpur, Dec. 8 : Tatanagar railways has started dismantling the old abandoned road overbridge to pave way for the new project of the second footbridge.

Railway sources said the dismantling work which began on Tuesday will be carried out in different phases. The dismantling work of the old overbridge is expected to complete in another three weeks.

Tatanagar railway station director H K Balmuchu said railway block is required to be taken for carrying out the dismantling work. ” We want to complete the project on time. We would impose the block as per directives from our headquarters in Chakradharpur. The authorities at Chakradharpur-based divisional headquarter is overseeing the dismantling work. The block which stops movement of train would be carried out when the train traffic is less,” explained Balmuchu.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety had earlier given its green signal for dismantling the old bridge, traffic movement through which was stopped some 18-years ago.

The station director said that the construction of the second footbridge has already started. ” we have laid foundation of two pillars while the foundation of the third pillar is expected in another one week. The work of the second footbridge has gathered momentum. The project is expected to complete in another three months or so,” he said.

Being built at the Chakradharpur end of the station, the footbridge will allow passengers to access all the five platforms with extra ease. It will also help them reach platforms from the second station entrance at Burmamines. Tatanagar, an A1-category station, currently has one footbridge at Howrah-end. it witnesses a huge rush during arrival and departure of trains.
