Jamshedpur, Dec 14: The ongoing violence in West Bengal in protest of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has adversely affected railway traffic in Chakradharpur division. Railway administration has rescheduled several trains passing through Tatanagar railway station. While several trains have been cancelled, many of them have been short-terminated, sources said.
Sources said protestors resorted to violence at Morigram and Bakarnawaz stations in Howrah-Kharagpur section. The protestors blocked railway tracks for more than 11 hours. They also pelted stones on train compartments and vandalized them.
In order to ensure security of passengers, the Railway department has cancelled three Express trains, Mumbai Gitanjali Express, Howrah-Pune Duranto Express and Shailmar-Kurla Mumbai Express passing through Chakradharpur railway division. It has also cancelled Steel Express from Mecheda to Howrah Station.
Yesterday, protestors had wreaked ruckus at Uluberia station of South Eastern Railway. They had burnt tyres on railway tracks and had also pelted stones on several stations and trains. Several people were injured in the incident.
The protestors had also assaulted railway employees and RPF personnel. As a result, several trains were stalled at Tatanagar station. Railway traffic was disrupted for several hours. CSMT-Howrah Duranto Express was stopped at Tatanagar for two and half hour. Several trains were stopped at various places in Howrah-Kharagpur rail section due to violence.
