MD promises better infrastructure development

: Tata Steel has roped in three international consultants to develop master plan for the Steel City Jamshedpur.

The city that has a glorious history of more than a century is gearing up for a makeover with advanced infrastructure facilities like airport and a network of flyovers.

The steel company has engaged three consultants hailing from USA, Singapore and Hong Kong to prepare a master plan on the ways to develop the city with thrust on infrastructure development. The consultants also interacted with the stakeholders during their recent visit to the city.

Sharing the vision of the company for the city, TV Narendran, who on Friday took over the charge of managing director of Tata Steel, said that the company was focussed on infrastructure development like construction of flyovers, an airport and advanced medical facilities, for which necessary efforts are being made.

Addressing his first press meet after assuming the office, Narendran said that the company plans to construct flyovers to reduce traffic of heavy vehicles which usually criss-cross the city. He also re-iterated the company’s commitment of providing state-of the-art heathcare facility.

Sharing the plans, Sunil Bhaskaran, deputy vice president, corporate services, Tata Steel, said that the consultants will prepare a master plan of the city and based on the recommendations the company will head for the projects. The plan would be a road map towards the development and progress of the city.

“These consultants also visited the city and interacted with the stakeholders and brainstormed on ways to develop the city. We are hopeful that in next eight months they will submit their report and based on their suggestions we will select one of the planners to develop our city,” said Bhaskaran.

He noted that the thrust area of the master plan will be infrastructure development of the city. Meanwhile, confidently answering media queries, Narendran promised to take Jamshedpur to a further heights of development. He said that apart from infrastructural growth company will continue to focus on creating avenues for the youths by providing better medical and educational facilities.

“We need to attract new talent for our industry and for this we need to develop our city to ensure availability of all the facilities for the youths. With the co-operation of everyone we would like to take Jamshedpur to a different level and make it an attractive place,” he said. Narendran said that “Tata Steel has given a lot to this city in the past 100 years and will continue to do so in future”.

‘First phase of Odisha Project to be commissioned by FY 15 end’Tata Steel MD TV Narendran today said that the steel company is focussed on successfully commissioning of the first phase of its greenfield project at Kalinganagar in Odisha. He expressed confidence that it will be ready by end of FY 15. Replying to a query, he said:

“We hope that the first phase of three MT will be completed by the end of FY 15”. Tata Steel, the world’s leading steelmaker, has already invested Rs 15,000 crore in the new plant. It is largest steel project in the country with 35,000 crore investments planned. The managing director said that the once operational the plant will produce world class steel products.
