Jamshedpur: Jacobus Schraven, Director, Tata Steel and Chairman of SHE committee and Shahnawaz Alam, VP, Tata Workers’ Union jointly hoisted the National Safety Day 2014 flag at SHE Excellence Centre (inside Steel Works) today.
Schraven, in his address to the gathering, stressed upon the role of line managers in reducing
accidents and called upon all the line managers to be more committed at the shop floor.
Suresh Kumar, Dy. VP, Shared Services, Tata Steel talked about how Safety Communication done by line manager with each and every worker will help reduce the number of accidents and will make workers more empowered. He further added that we should take lessons from past incidents and deploy the learnings to prevent accidents in future.
Shahnawaz Alam, VP, Tata Workers’ Union assured all support from Tata Workers Union for Safety Excellence Journey in Tata Steel.Earlier in the programme, Shyam Sunder, Chief Corporate Safety, Tata Steel welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed the audience about the National
Safety Council and its history.
Vilas N Gaikwad proposed the vote of thanks to all the dignitaries present. The National Safety Week 2014, scheduled from Mar 4-10, 2014, will include safety padyatra, joint mass meetings by Dy. VPs/ GMs, rail safety campaign, hazard hunt programmes, various competitions like online safety quiz, best incident investigation, best model workplace, best visual stand
operating procedures, community safety programmes including awareness programme on road safety at graduate collage sakchi meant for the convener of collage safe clubs.
The closing ceremony of the Safety Week will be organised on March 10 at Steelennium Hall.
