Dehradun, Dec 19: The Tata Relief Committee (TRC) and the Government of Uttarakhand (GoUK) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) towards community rehabilitation and reconstruction in response to the impact of the floods and landslides in June 2013.

The scope of the MOU includes an overall framework within which rehabilitation initiatives may be implemented across themes of reconstruction, health, vocational skill training and enterprise based livelihoods.

It also provides for formal allocation of 9 villages across Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh to TRC for overall reconstruction and rehabilitation. A joint committee with representatives from the GoUK and TRC has also been established for supervision of the initiatives.

The MoU was signed by Rakesh Sharma (Additional Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand) and Sunil Bhaskaran (Vice Chairman, Tata Relief Committee). The occasion was also graced by Vijay Bahuguna (Hon. Chief Minister, Uttarakhand) and Subhash Kumar (Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand).

The Tata group had earlier responded to the floods, landslides of June 2013, through a dedicated rehabilitation programme in the State. The first phase of the programme focused on relief and medical assistance where over 10,000 beneficiaries were covered across Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Chamoli districts, the company said in a statement.

A comprehensive impact assessment survey was also completed through the Tata Institute of Social Sciences covering around 90 villages across the state. The company has said the subsequent phase of the programme would focus on channeling resources towards long term rehabilitation efforts in affected areas.
