Jamshedpur, Feb 28: The 9th Annual Award function of Tata Steel Education Excellence programme was organised today at Rabindra Bhavan. TV Narendran, MD, Tata Steel graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Awards on the occasion were given away by TV Narendran, Dr JJ Irani, ExDirector, Tata Sons, B
Muthuraman, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel, AB Lall , Plant Head, Tata Motors, Tarun Daga, MD,
Tinplate Company of India Limited.
A total of 32 schools had undertaken TEEP assessment this year. Most of these schools also participated in other TEEP initiatives such as EQUIP (Educational Quality Improvement Projects), Innoteaching (Innovation in Teaching methods), Pankh (Student led improvement
stories) and Pearl (Best Practice Sharing).
18 schools (16 schools from Jamshedpur and 2 schools from out-locations) had undertaken the TEEPRegular assessment in the current year. The schools included Gulmohur High School, Jamshedpur Public School AIWC, J.H.Tarapore School, JUSCO School Kadma, JUSCO School , South
Park, Kerala Public School, Burmamines, Hill Top School, Kerala Public School, Mango, NML
Kerala Public School, Kerala Samajam Model School, Kidzee Pearly Gates, Mrs. KMPM Inter College, Motilal Nehru Public School, Narbheram Hansraj English School, Sant Nandlal Smriti Vidya Mandir ,Ghatsila, Tarapur Vidya Mandir & Junior College, Boisar, Tarapore School,Agrico and Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco.
All 18 schools received commendation awards at the award function as well as “certificate for participation.” 88 trained assessorsincluding Principals, teachers and officers from Tata
group of companies, guided by 3 mentors carried out the comprehensive task of assessing these schools.
14 schools (11 from Jamshedpur, 3 from outlocations) had undertaken the TEEP-Basic assessment
in the current year. 9 schools received commendation awards at the awards function and 5 schools were given certificate of participation.
The schools were also awarded for their ‘Education Quality Improvement Projects’ (EQUIP) this year. Out of 48 EQUIPs received from various schools, 8 were recognized at the award function.
Another category of recognition was ‘PEARLGood Practices of Schools’. Of the 97 promising practices identified by the assessment teams, 6 were recognized at the award function.
Several new initiatives were introduced in the current year which included Innoteaching , papers are submitted by teachers on improvements and innovations implemented by them in the teaching methods. Of the 47 inno-teaching papers submitted from 20 schools, 10 were recognized. PANKH is an initiative provided for students to submit papers on their improvement
stories. 21 such improvement papers were submitted from as many as 15 schools. 5 papers have
TCIL Award for consistent performance in EQUIP Tinplate Company of India Limited has instituted an award for consistent performance in EQUIP. This is given to schools which demonstrate consistent commitment towards addressing their school’s challenges through systematic problem solving using EQUIP methodology. 2 schools are recipients of the TCIL 2013 Award: Baug-eJamsheed School, Kerala Samjam Model School.
TCIL Award for Innoteaching Practices
Tinplate Company of India Limited has instituted an award for Innoteaching Practices. This is given to schools for demonstrating commitment to improving teaching methodologies. The recipient of the TCIL Award 2013 is Gulmohur High School.
In his welcome address, Sunil Bhaskaran, Chairman TEEP & Dy. Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel spoke about the evolution and growth of TEEP programme. He emphasised that excellence is an unending journey and every participant is a winner. On the milestone of TEEP having crossed 10 years since its inception, N.K. Sharan, Vice President, Tata Quality
Management Services, highlighted the audience on the new initiatives for schools to participate in excellence. He mentioned that besides Regular Assessment , EQUIP , and PEARL , Innoteaching (for teachers) and PANKH (for students), Schools from underprivileged background
can now also undertake the excellence journey through SARAL Assessments.
Dr. Irani congratulated the award winners and participating schools. He added that excellence needs to start in students’ minds and THE PANKH initiative of TEEP is a step in the right direction. Chief Guest, Narendran expressed his happiness at the good work being done by Tata Steel & TQMS but cautioned that the new age will require newer role of teachers as mentors and schools need to gear up for this change.
The programme was attended by a large number of Principals, teachers and students and managing
committee members of more than 40 schools, senior government officials, senior executives of Tata Group of Companies, Union leaders, retired executives, and senior citizens.
Ms. Natasha Sood, Mr. P Ramesh, and Dr. Deepali Misra from TQMS conducted the program followed
by Vote of thanks by P. Ramesh of TQMS.
Launched in 2003, the Tata Steel Education Excellence Programme has in the past ten years promoted Excellence in Education in the schools of Jamshedpur and a select few in the vicinity of Tata Steel’s out locations. TEEP has completed 10 years since its inception. The programme
was conceived as a tool to enable schools improve the quality of education so that they may
offer greater value to the students and create a culture of excellence to nurture the “citizens of tomorrow.” Almost all 40 schools (ICSE, CBSE and other boards touching 2500 teachers & 100000 students) regularly participate in this noble and unique private endeavour.
The programme is unique in at least following two perspectives. 17 schools had participated in
the award in the first year in 2004.
