On June 3, Kolkata-based theatre group Nandikar will present Panchajanya directed by Sohini Sengupta. Sengupta is the daughter of veteran theatre icon Rudra prasad Sengupta.

“Theatre caters to a very niche audience but it has a vast subject and it involves acting, stage set up, lighting and voice modulation. People need to understand that. Films draw people because of glamour but few people understand that theatre has its own glamour.

We are trying to make them understand the importance of theatre.” noted an official of the society. He said that the basic idea behind the
festival is to create awareness among the youths the rich works.

“Plays give social message, which is important for today’s society. Time has changed. It is sad to note that the present generation is much keen about the books on Harry Potter rather literary works from their own native country. We want to show the children how rich and creative are the works of our writers,” noted an artist.
