Jamshedpur: The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated in Chandinagar under the aegis of city-based social organization Lok Samarpan on Tuesday. The outfit president Lalit Das was the chief guest of the occasion.
He inaugurated the campaign by paying floral tributes to the Mahatma. He also administered oach of cleanliness to the residents.
In his address, Das said that maintaining cleanliness and hygiene was must for all individuals who dream of living a healthy life. By maintaining hygiene, one can remain away from various life-threatening epidemic diseases, he said.
Das felicitated two local residents, Puja Kumari and Indradev Jha, and the general secretary of Swami Vivekananda Seva Sansthan, Akhilesh Kumar Choudhary, for their role in Swachhata Abhiyan.
The outfit members cleaned the basti with brooms and also sprinkled bleaching powder on roadsides and drains. Plastic dustbins were distributed among local shopkeepers to help them collect garbage for proper disposal.
Earlier, Das was welcomed by the basti residents. He was given a bouquet by Umesh Sahu. He said Swachhata was the key to a healthy society.
Those present during the programme included Tuntun Singh, Akhilesh Kumar Choudhary, Pradip Dubey, Ritesh Dutta, Dev Kumar, Lakshya Khirwal.
