Focus on smooth movement of vehicles on the Dimna Road
Jamshedpur, Jan 10: Concern over waste materials dumped on Dimna Road, the gateway to Jamshedpur from NH-33, in Mango the local civic body has started taking steps for cleanliness ahead of the Swachh Survekshan 2020.
With assessors expected to carry out surprise verification under Union urban development ministry as part of Swachh Survekshan 2020, the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) has written a letter to Jusco senior GM (Jamshedpur Town Operation) Dhananjay Mishra for cleaning and maintenance of the road median.
“We are taking every step to ensure cleanliness in view of the survey. We are taking steps for smooth movement of vehicles on the Dimna Road. During a meeting we came to know that that the nearly 3.5 km long central verge of the Dimna Road has virtually turned dumping yard. The road is maintained by Jusco and today we asked to undertake regular cleaning and maintenance as is being done in other roads in Jamshedpur city under Jusco command area,’ said MNAC special officer Deepak Sahay.
The four-lane Dimna Road, which stretches for 3.5km, is the entry point to the steel city from NH-33 and witnesses a steady flow of heavy vehicles. The road hosts several business establishments and apartments. Nearly 50,000 vehicles cross the stretch daily and peak-hour snarls, especially near Mango roundabout where illegal parking is rampant, are a nightmare.
The four-lane New Purulia Road, which links Mango with densely populated areas such as Azadnagar and Jawaharnagar, and hosts popular addresses like Payal Talkies, the state forest guesthouse and Mango police station, witnesses unauthorised parking every day. Congestion woes are similar on Old Purulia Road, which links Mango to Kapali in neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
“ Moreover the vegetable vendors’ dumps their vegetables while nearby shopkeepers dump their waste inside the central verge. We have asked Jusco to clean the waste and undertake yellow and black paints on the walls of the central verge as has been done on central verges of roads maintained by Jusco under their command areas,’ said Deepak Sahay.
It may be mentioned that Mango was placed 95 in the Swachh Survekshan 2019 and though serious efforts have been initiated in door-to-door cleaning of waste and other parameters but the Dimna Road littered with waste due to vegetable vendors and residents is yet to be taken care of .
The Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), offers urban amenities to a population of nearly 3 lakh.
