Jamshedpur, Sept 20: The East Singhbhum district health department will carry out massive rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 at the steel city and in its rural areas of the district on Monday.
The health department has set a target to carry out all 10,000 tests on a single day covering both the urban areas as well as the rural areas of the district. The department has prepared by engaging over 380 medical personnel.
SDO Nitish Kumar Singh convened a meeting in this regard and gave important instructions to the health workers. He said that in order to stop the spread of the virus it is important to ensure early detection of the virus.
The district administration and health wing have made all preparation so that the testing procedure may start effectively from 8 am to continue till 4 pm on Monday. The medical team that will carry out the test will obtain swabbed samples from the nose and throat like it is done for a test in the RT-PCR in a lab, but the sample tests are done by means of a kit outside a laboratory.
“ We are focusing on early detection of the people affected from the virus. This will ensure that the patient is isolated and the further spread of the virus can be cured,” said an official.
According to sources in the health department, the rapid antigen tests will be carried out in Jamshedpur and in 10 blocks across the East Singhbhum district. The people who will be subjected to the test will have to appear before primary health centres in rural areas.
The sources said in Jamshedpur 16 sample collection-cum-test centres have been identified for the rapid antigen tests, whereas in the rural areas of the district 160 such centres have been set up. About 380 medical personnel, including doctors and technicians will be attending the massive test drive, all wearing PPE kits during the day-long programme.
