Jamshedpur, Dec 26: Samvidhan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti organized a public meeting against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) at Gandhi Maidan, Mango, on Thursday.
The chief speaker of the programme was Abu Baqar, a Supreme Court advocate.
He alleged that the BJP-led Central government was trying to implement NRC in the country with the view to divert citizens from real issues. He said the Central government was setting up detention centres in Assam. He said he was born in India and was not going anywhere.
Another speaker, Ajit Mahato of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj, West Bengal, slammed the Central government for bringing CAA and NRC. He said the people were against the government move.
Moulana Manzar Mohsin from Kishanganj, Bihar, said the Muslims were ready to sacrifice everything for the country’s unity and integrity.
Today’s public meeting was chaired by Syed Saifuddin Asdak. The speakers included Ravindra Rajak, Pratap Kumar Yadav, Mufti Saud Alam and Ahmad Riyaz.
The participants of today’s meeting carried banners and posters. They also waved the Tricolour and blue flags. Anti-CAA and anti-NRC posters were flashed at various places.
On the appeal of organizers, a demonstration was staged outside Mosabani block office today.
In view of the public meetings against CAA and NRC, district administration had made elaborate security arrangements. Anti-riot vehicles were kept at Gandhi Maidan Mango and Composite Control Room, Sakchi. SP City patrolled the city.
He was followed by an anti-riot vehicle. Mobile teams of bike-borne cops were also pressed into service to keep peace at sensitive places. Water cannons, tear gas squad and fire tenders were also kept in reserve.
