Kolkata: General Manager, South Eastern Railway, P S Mishra conducted a detailed inspection of Adityapur-Kharagpur 3rd Line Project which is under construction by visiting the site along with Senior officers of South Eastern Railway and RVNL. The construction work of this project is being hampered due to huge encroachment at Krishnanagar and surrounding construction areas in Jharkhand.
Taking the issue seriously and with his personal initiatives, the GM requested the authorities of Govt. of Jharkhand to extend co-operation and help to remove the encroachers. With the full support of the State Government, a joint eviction drive was conducted from 24th to 26th November, 2018. As a result, as many as 230 encroachers some with double-storied structures were evicted from construction site.
GM/SER again has ordered the construction officials of RVNL and Railways on the timely completion of the project tentatively around 2020, which will make a great link with enhanced Line capacity to ensure faster movement of Passenger and Freight trains on Howrah-Mumbai trunk route.
This will help the Railways to start the work in full swing and the work will be completed tentatively within 2020.
The length of the project is 132 km and was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 at an estimated cost of Rs.1312 crore. The project is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Out of 132 km, 77 km is under the state of Jharkhand and the rest 55 km remains under West Bengal.
The project includes construction of 18 major and 157 minor bridges to connect 16 block stations. This third line project will not only increase the section capacity, but will also help to accelerate the mobility of trains. As the economic development of the region depends upon better connectivity and infrastructural development, this project will help the local inhabitants and industries to grow in a greater way.
