Jamshedpur : Senior tribal leader and former MP from Mayurbanjh, Odisha and the president of Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP), Salkhan Murmu on Monday merged his outfit into the BJP and joined its realm at a function organised at Sakchi.
Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Arjun Munda Saryu Roy, Dineshanand Goswami and Meneka Sardar were also present at the function.
Murmu informed that he had recently met Union Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, who is also the in-charge of BJP affair in Jharkhand, and former CM Arjun Munda and decided to merge his party into BJP for greater benefit of the people of Jharkhand.
Murmu, who was earlier with the BJP, ended ties with it in mid-2000. He floated JDP to advocate the cause of the tribals. JDP failed to connect with the voters. On August 6 the party leadership from five eastern states including Jharkhand decided to merge with BJP.
Murmu, who first became MP in 1998 under the banner of BJP, has always been advocating the cause of the tribals. It may be mentioned here that as a candidate of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), he (Salkhan) lost the Jamshedpur by poll in August 2007.
Talking to the newsmen Arjun Munda expressed confidence to form Government in the State. He said that several Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM) MLAs have decided to merge with BJP on August 20 at Ranchi.
“We have received a proposal letter in this regard to formally merge with BJP. The merger will take place on August 20, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jharkhand.
Apart from Murmu several other political party leaders have joined the saffron brigade. Jharkhand Vikash Morcha ( JVM ) senior leader Dulal Bhuiyan joined the BJP at a function in Ranchi on August 10.
Four JVM leaders Bokaro MLA Samresh Singh, Simaria’s Jai Prakash Singh Bhokta, Jamua’s Chandrika Mahtha and Giridih’s Nirbhaya Kumar Shatabdi also joined BJP last month.
