Jamshedpur : ‘Safety Symposium cum Exposition FY’13 ‘was inaugurated today by . Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel and P N Singh, President, Tata Workers’ Union at Steelenium hall.
During his inaugural speech, Anand Sen emphasized that safety should be imbibed in our value systems. He expressed his desire that this initiative would help Tata steel officials enhance their safety knowledge under the guidance of dignitaries during the scheduled two technical sessions.
Chief Guest for the occasion, Chuck Norris, Project Manager, DuPont Sustainable Solutions thanked Tata Steel for making DuPont a partner in their journey towards safety. He also mentioned that there has been a significant improvement in safety measures in the past few years at Tata Steel.
Mr. Norris stated that 93% of accidents occur due to personal negligence and hence the onus is on every individual to be performing his or her duties responsibly, keeping a balance on both the quantitative and qualitative aspects.
The key note address was given by V B Sant, Director General, National Safety Council. He congratulated Tata Steel for contributing to the community for decades.
He also thanked Tata Steel for making Mr. Naval Tata as the 1st chairman of National Safety Council in the year 1966. He said ‘by 2016 -2017, India could be the 2nd largest Steel producer in the world & Tata Steel would play a significant role in achieving this target for the country.’
P N Singh, President, Tata Workers’ Union, appreciated the initiatives of Tata Steel for employees’ safety. He mentioned that there is a lot to be done to achieve zero accidents inside Works.
On the occasion, two books ‘INNOVATIONS UNLIMITED’ and ‘OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES’ were jointly released by the dignitary invitees.
Two technical sessions were held during the day – ‘High returns through Effective Safety Management System’ chaired by Mr. Alok Kanagat, VP, Engineering & Projects, Tata Steel and Mr. Shahnawaz Alam, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union; ‘Process Safety & Disaster Management’ chaired by B K Das, Dy. VP, CSI, Tata Steel along with Subodh Srivastav, Vice President, Tata Workers’ Union. Earlier in the programme, Dr. O B Krishnan, Chief, Corporate Safety, Tata Steel welcomed the guests and briefed about the Symposium ’13. Mr. Shyam Sunder, Chief, Safety & Ergonomics, Tata Steel gave the vote of thanks.
