Jamshedpur: Members of Republican Party of India organized a one day sit-in programme at Sakchi roundabout here on Wednesday to demand total prohibition on liquor in Jharkhand.
Raising slogans against alcoholism and sale of liquor through the state government-controlled beverages corporation, the protestors said it was high time the government put a complete ban on liquor in the larger interest of the people.
Leading the protestors, the state general secretary of Republican Party of India, Hema Shah said, “There are around 60 women from different villages of East Singhbhum present during the protest programme. All of them demand complete ban on liquor as they all know the hazards of liquor consumption and its flourishing trade in the state, especially in the rural areas.”
The protestors sent memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Chief Secretary of Jharkhand Rajbala Verma, DC of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar and other government officials to bring their attention to their demand for prohibition.
Among those present during the sit-in included Samar Kundu, Manoj Barua, Kiran Prasad Sanyasi, Sangat Lahri, Kanchan Patro, Mukti Barua, Bina Lohar, Roopbala Mahato, Robin Pramanik, Rajkumar Gorai, Laxmi Devi and Rohit.
