Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Former state food and civil supplies minister and sitting MLA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Roy filed nomination as an independent candidate from Jamshedpur East Assembly constituency on Monday. Accompanied by hundreds of supporters, he reached the office of sub divisional officer (SDO), Dhalbhum, Chandan Kumar, around 1 pm to file his nomination.
Denied ticket by the BJP from Jamshedpur West constituency, Roy quit as the state minister and decided to contest the Assembly poll from Jamshedpur East as an independent. Chief Minister Raghubar Das has filed nomination from this seat.
Roy and his supporters reached the SDO office after the exit of Raghubar Das. Before reaching here, Roy’s supporters gathered near Bodhi Temple, Sakchi, and took out a procession to the SDO office. No big face of BJP was present during the procession or nomination filing by Roy. As the procession reached the Collectorate, traffic came to a halt for some time.
