Jamshedpur, Jan. 2 : The Tagore Society is all set to organise the Annual Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan comprising 12 artists out of which four from Bangladesh and one from Jamshedpur. The conference will start from January 11 and will continue till January 13 at Rabindra Bhavan auditorium in Sakchi.
For the first time London based RabindraSangeet singer Ananda Gupta will perform at the Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan this year.
Officials of Tagore Society said the conference is set up to nurture young talents and popularise Rabindra Sangeet, art and literature.
General Secretary of Tagore Society Asish Choudhary said the response was overwhelming last year and artists captivated the audience with traditional tunes of Rabindra Sangeet. This year too they are organising on grand scale.
“Rabindra Sangeet, is based on songs written and composed by Tagore, which draw on the pure Indian classical as well as traditional folk-music sources, exert a powerful influence in Bengali cultural life.
It deals with varied themes are immensely popular and form a foundation for the Bengali culture that is comparable to, perhaps even greater than, that which Shakespeare has on the English-speaking world. It is said that his songs are the outcome of 500 years of literary & cultural churning that the Bengali community has gone through,” said Supratik Das, an artist.
Meanwhile officials of Tagore Society said that the beauty of RabindraSangeet lies in the fact that both the ordinary person as well as one well versed in music can appreciate its melody. It reaches great heights in satisfying the soul with its unique compositions and goes to great depths in bringing out the meaning to thoughts conveyed in the songs.
It may be mentioned that Tagore Society, a city based premium educational and cultural organisation, has been organising cultural and art events since its inception. Every year people in large numbers participate in its events.
On the first day Gupta along with Shreya Guha Thakurta, Durnibar Saha, Swagata lakshmi Dasgupta and Manomoy Bhattacharjee will perform at Rabindra Bhavan auditorium in Sakchi.
On the second day, Jamshedpur based artiste Chandana Chowdhury; Bangladesh based artiste Aditi Mohsin and Kolkata based artistes- ArindamGanguly; Sraboni Sen and Srikanta Acharya will also perform. Day three will witness Jamshedpur based artiste Anindita Gupta; Bangladesh based artiste Lisa Ahmed Lisa and Kolkata based singers- Manoj Murali Nayar, Bidipta Chakraborty and Saheb Mukherjee.
