Injured policemen rescued
Jamshedpur: Police prevented an agitated mob of villagers from lynching three youths who had been kept hostage and being thrashed by the villagers at Murakati village under Ghatshila police station around 40 km from Jamshedpur.
The three youths who had allegedly made a video of a pair of lovers sitting beside a canal at Murakati village were identified as Anjan Bhakat, Devnath Karmakar and Mahadev Namta.
Trouble started when the youth who was sitting with his girl-friend had informed the local Gram Sabha about the act of the youths.
The functionaries of the Murakati Gram Sabha, had called the youths and brought them near the Gram Sabha office at the middle of the village.The functionaries of the Gram Sabha had tied the three to trees and started beating them.
According to police, the Gram Sabha functionaries along with the villagers started beating the three youths, but the fourth youth, Mihir Namta, who had fled informed the Ghatshila police.
Sub-divisional police officer, Ghatshila, Ranbir Singh said they received the information about the three youths being thrashed at Murakati and the police came into action for rushing to Murakati.
Singh said a police party led by the Ghatshila thana OC, Prabhat Kumar rushed to the Murakati village and stopped the villagers from thrashing the youths.
The OC managed free the three youths from the clutches of the angry villagers and as they were bringing the three in a police vehicle, the villagers suddenly got violent and started pelting stones at the police vehicle causing it stop. A section of the police men, somehow managed to escape but three police jawans were caught by the mob who took them to into hostage. The villagers had also damaged the police vehicle and overturned it,” said the SDPO.
The villagers were thrashing the police jawans also by keeping them in three different spot.
The senior SP, Anoop Birtharay rushed to the spot along with a company of force and surrounded the village. After a search operation, the three jawans were found out. The three policemen who were badly injured rescued and rushed to the MGM Medical College Hospital. From the medical college hospital, the three jawans identified as Kushal Kundala, D Purushottam and Gurai Rajbhall, all Special Armed Forces (SAF) posted at Ghatshila. The condition of all the injured jawans is described as out of danger.
