Jamshedpur: Former Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajoy Kumar on Friday said the state police machinery was not being used effectively to contain crime including freak incidents of violence.
In a press statement issued today regarding yesterday’s incident of violence in Bagbera and Rajnagar resulting in lynching of several people under suspicion of child lifting, he said, “Rumours regarding child lifting have spread like wildfire in several parts of Jharkhand in the last few weeks.
It has spread especially in Seraikela-Kharsawan, Dhanbad and Bokaro. So far 18 people have been killed across the state by mob.”
Kumar said the long list of lynching cases revealed that the law and order situation in the state was worsening by every passing day. The deteriorating law and order situation owes much to the inefficacious policing, he said, blaming the state government for the situation.
Kumar said the police should have been sensitive and alert regarding the child-lifting rumours and the killings resulting from them.
“Had the police kept its information network in active mode, such incidents could have been stopped. It is unfortunate that such incidents are happening in the home town of the Chief Minister. The BJP-led government has become a symbol of jungle raj,” he said.
