Jamshedpur: The district police have claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the murder of 27-year-old Mango-based jeweller Santosh Kumar Verma, by arresting two persons.

Those arrested have been identified as Raju Ahmed and Mohammed Bashir both residents of Kapali under adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The main accused Mohammed Arif, who is a resident of Bagan Sahee, Azadnagar in Mango is still absconding. The police have recovered a country-made pistol and a sim card from the possession of the arrested persons.

Senior superintendent of police, Amol V Homkar said that in the evening of November 28, Arif had called Santosh to strike a deal of a second-hand car which the murder victim wanted to buy.

” After arrival of Santosh near the Kalimandir, Rafi had tried to shoot Santosh from the country-made pistol, which missed. The trio caught hold of Santosh and dragged him and hit the victim’s head with a big bolder, causing him to die on the spot,” the senior SP, while addressing the media.

The senior SP said that the trio murdered Santosh Kumar as they were in dire need of money.

Replying the queries, Homkar said the assailants could not take the gold rings and gold chain from the victim’s neck as they were in a hurry and confused.

Santosh Kumar was missing from his shop located at Mango Chowk from November 28 and his body was found lying at a lone place in Pakipani village under Bodam police station area next morning.

At the time the body was found, the police had seen two gold rings and a gold chain intact in the victim’s body, suggesting that the murder was not committed for loot purpose.
