Saraikela, Sept 23: Four minor children were left fighting for survival while their parents Bholanath Munda and Basanti Munda deserted them. According to information, the Munda couple resides in Gedesai village in Jonbani Panchayat under Rajnagar Block.  Bholanath Munda left home a few days earlier while the mother, Basanti Munda left her house two months ago and is reportedly staying in her aunt’s house. A search is on for the father of the four children while Basanti, after being briefed of her husband deserting the children, has shown unwillingness to return home and even shown reluctance to accept the children.

The four children Kumari Mamata Munda (15 years) is a class 10 student of Kasturba School. Sanjay Munda (11 years) and Savita Munda (11 years) study in class 6 of Jhalak Middle School while the youngest, Vijay Munda (8 years) studies in the village school. The four children are staying home alone and the eldest sibling, Mamata is looking after them.

The children are in a pitiable condition. They are finding it difficult to cope with the situation that they have suddenly been thrown into by their parents. Two days earlier, local villager Ramratan Mahto had taken the children to the police station and sought the OC’s help. The OC directed that the parents be found and handed over to the police station. He also suggested that the Zila Bal Kalyan Samiti be contacted. The children were taken there too but no help was offered. Meanwhile, the search for their father Bholanath Munda is continuing.  

Bholanath is leprosy afflicted

Husband Bholanath being leprosy inflicted his wife Basanti left home and the four minor children in her husband’s care. Local villagers said that leprosy, even among the educated elite, is looked down upon in disdain but expressed anger on the couple’s leaving the children to fend for themselves. Sometime later, even Bholanath left home and has disappeared. The apathy of the parents towards their four innocent children has shaken all villagers.

DLSA PLVs reach out help

On receiving information of the sorry plight of the four minor children, DLSA PLVs Bhaktu Mardi and Rohit Mahto visited the children at their Gedesai village residence on Wednesday and in the presence of their next door neighbor gave them food items.
