Two AK 47 assault rifles, two rifles of 315 bore , one nine MM pistol recovered
Jamshedpur: Five ultras of outlawed People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were killed and two others injured in an encounter with police and paramilitary forces at Arki in Khunti district bordering West Singhbhum District this morning.
Those killed include dreaded PLFI rebel, Prabhu Sahay alias Bodra who was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. The identity of the rest of the rebels was yet to be ascertained.
The encounter took place at Tirla village in Arki, considered to be a hot bed of PLFI rebels. The encounter which took place between the CoBRA battlion of 209 lasted for about two hours . The police and para-military forces recovered two AK 47 assault rifles, two rifles of 315 bore , one nine MM pistol and three country-made pistols from the spot.
Apart from the arms and ammunition, the police have recovered medicines and food materials from the spot of encounter.
IG (Operations) Ashish Batra confirmed the encounter with the PLFI activists at Arki in Khunti district. “In all five bodies of PLFI rebels have been recovered and two others were found in injured condition. The injured have been admitted at a hospital in Ranchi,” Batra, who is also the spokesman of Jharkhand police said.
The Jharkhand police spokesman said that the Khunti police which had also participated in the encounter had got the tip of the presence of Prabhu Sahay alias Bodra, leading the CoBRA to start an LRP at Tirla jungle, leading to the encounter with the PLFI rebel, adding that combing operation at the encounter spot is still on.
The police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up the naxal infested areas of West Singhbhum district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary force on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.
The district police have maintained that combing operation in the Maoist infested areas of the district will continue as usual and there is no let up whatsoever.
“Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,” said another official.
