Jamshedpur, March 23 : Social cultural organisation, Naman-Shaheedonkesapne on Saturday organised a massive march in the city to mark 88th martyrdom day of three freedom fighters at Agrico transport ground. Each year, March 23, homage is paid to the great revolutionary fighters Bhagat Singh, ShivaramRajguru and SukhdevThapar who sacrificed their lives for the country. It was on March 23, 1931, three young freedom fighters were hanged to death in the Lahore Central Jail.
( Rtd) Prem Prakash Sabharwal inaugurated the march from Agrico Ground. He also flagged off ‘Bharat Mata rath’ as part of the celebration.
The march that started from Agrico Ground witnessed overwhelming participation. Under the leadership of Amarpreet Singh Kale thousands of people including children participated in it. Holding placards on the martyrs the march went to different areas before concluding at Sakchi.
A session was also organised at Agrico during which about 18 fighters and their family members were felicitated for their contribution to national security during several wars.
“ We have been observing martyrdom day from past four years. This year the participation has increased in manifold. It is our duty to see that family members of soldiers who died in the line of duty are felicitated. In memory of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh along with Rajguru, SukhdevThapar who were hanged to death on March 23 we decided to organise the event,” noted Kale.
A cultural programme was organised as part of the celebrations in which students from various educational institutions participated and presented a dance recital.
Others who joined him were trade Union leader Rakeshwar Pandey and Amarpreet Singh Kale, president of organisation Naman that organised the rally for the fourth consecutive year. The rally witnessed around a participation of more than 30,000 people that shouted slogans on ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘VandeMataram’.
