Jamshedpur, May 30: Mystery shrouds alleged theft of Rs 7 lakh from a staff quarter of a construction company at Kowali under the same police station area. The amount which went missing from an almirah was kept for payment of workers’ salaries engaged in a canal construction in Kowali-Potka stretch.
OC, Kowali police station, Satrughna Paswan said that in-charge Raghubar Prasad and four workers would stay in two-room quarters close to the construction site and the Rs 7 lakh which was kept in one of the two rooms where none of the five were staying.
“Soon after the incident, Raghubar informed the police that the almirah was found broken and the cash kept in the almirah was missing,” said Paswan.
He said they suspect foul play behind the alleged theft because none of the five inmates is giving satisfactory reply to the police.
“During the investigation we found that the management of the construction firm had given Raghubar Rs 3 lakh on May 6 and Rs 4 lakh on May 19, making the total amount to Rs 7 lakh which was meant for salary payment. The in-charge would sleep with the four other workers. As the site in-charge would stay along with four workers instead of staying at the room where so much money was kept, we suspect some foul play,” said the OC.
