Jamshedpur, April 10: After being denied the opportunity to meet Narendra Modi during his visit to Steel city of Jamshedpur, around 500 workers of JVM led by Dr. Ajoy Kumar, the sitting Jamshedpur MP, resorted to Gandhigiri at Aam Bagan in Sakchi on Thursday. Dr. Ajoy protested against BJP district leadership for denying him the opportunity to meet Gujarat Chief Minister.
Ajoy Kumar, who is also the JVM candidate for Jamshedpur constituency, had written to BJP state president Ravinder Rai, senior party leader and former chief minister Arjun Munda and had also sent a fax to Narendra Modi to his Gujarat address two-days ago seeking time to meet the BJP’s Prime Ministerial aspirant during his rally in city. The Gandhigiri began at Aam Bagan at around 11 am.
On the occasion Dr. Ajoy Kumar said, “We wanted to meet Narendra Modi and know from him how they could give ticket to a candidate (Bidyut Baran Mahto) from Jamshedpur whose name figures in the Rajya Sabha horse trading issue of 2010, even while in their manifesto they claim that they would wipe out corruption after coming to power at center.” Dr. Ajoy claimed that there is no Modi ‘wave’ either in Jamshedpur or Jharkhand.
Denied the opportunity to meet Modi, the MP along with JVM activists and supporters today resorted to Gandhigiri which continued till 2.30 pm, by the time Narendra Modi had left the city.
“We did not want to disturb the ambience due to election but sought an answer from a leader projected by his party as the future Prime Minister who harps on eliminating corruption about their giving ticket to a tainted leader. But it seems the BJP does want to answer on such issues which prompted us to take part in the symbolic agitation,” said Ajoy Kumar. The JVM had also planned to submit a copy of the CD to the BJP leader during his visit in city. The JVM MP had claimed of having possession of a CD which has names of Bidyut Baran Mahto showing his involvement in the horse trading case relating to 2010 Rajya Sabha elections.
The CD allegedly dates back to the time when Bidyut Baran was an MLA with the JMM. The JMM leader joined the BJP as recently as on March 19, 2014, and was promptly given the prestigious Jamshedpur Lok Sabha ticket.
Kumar claimed the CD had footage of a “key witness” which indicts Bidyut Baran and that it was authenticated by a digital expert to prove that the CD was not doctored and that they had sent copies of the CD as evidence to CBI today .
Incidentally, BJP leader Sarayu Roy had alleged through an audio CD during 2011 by-poll about a purported conversation between Ajoy Kumar and a Maoist area commander.
The audio CD case has been still pending with the CID.
