Series of events lined up for today
Jamshedpur : The Marketing Fair of XLRI, MAXI Fair kicked off this evening, drawing over thousands of participants within the first few hours of its opening.
The opening of MAXI Fair saw the culmination of several months of hard work by management student volunteers who worked tirelessly to execute every aspect of the fair ranging from sponsorships and media to logistics and entertainment.
Father E Abraham, director, XLRI said that MAXI Fair was conceptualized in 1979 by Prof. Sharad Sarin as a novel concept to conduct market research. It is one of the oldest marketing-focussed events in the b-school circuit.
It has been acclaimed all across the globe as a unique technique to study consumer behaviour. Using concepts such as Projective Techniques, students of XLRI gain valuable insights into the minds of consumers. The research is sponsored by Professors and Industry giants alike.
Stalls have been provided to organizations working for the betterment of local tribes wherein they can showcase and sell their products like Khadi, silk, handloom, handicrafts, Pytkar paintings, Dokra metal works etc.
Various organizations including Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Center, SEEDS, are participating.
Student of XLRI Manveen Kaur and Sarthak Mahanty have also put up their stall based on paintings and jewellery design.
Sneha Singh, coordinator of MAXI Fair said that the concept has received great acclaim both in India and abroad. Over the years, stalwarts such as Philip Kotler of the Kellogg School of Management, Theodore Levitt of the Harvard Business School and Dr. Philip Adler of the DuPree College of Management, among others, have all personally commended the unique concept.
The concept has been presented at several US universities and has met with great success.
People of Jamshedpur would get to attend workshops on diverse topics such as paper quilling,origami,portraitsketching.
Fancy dress competition for kids and an online marketing quiz for students in association with Mynewsstudio have been planned for this year. For the young college going and young working people events like paintball, zorbing, a food festival, and other such feature.
This innovative concept finds supporters and followers in the corporate world. Several Indian and Multinational corporate giants have presented research problems to XLRI for study.
The greatest testament to the power of this MR tool lies in the fact that these companies have based their strategic business decisions on the research results which have emanated from Maxi fair.
