Jamshedpur, June 16 : Following killing of five policemen by CPI-Maoist rebels at Khukru weekly market on Friday evening, police and security forces on Sunday began special operation in Chandil sub-division’s Tiruldih-Ichagarh-Khukru-Nimdih areas in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Sources informed that a large number of state and paramilitary forces have been engaged and a security camp was set up at the Chowk police station which is located strategically between Tiruldih and Kharsawan.
Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of poolice Chandan Kumar Sinha said that they have also launched special operation against the rebels in Chandil sub-division area from today.
” We are taking hard steps to flush out naxals. Earlier we had concentrated our anti-insurgency operation at Kharsawan in Seraikela sub-division where a series of naxal violence had taken place. But after the rebels attacked on a police party, resulting in the death of five policemen, we have also started focussing the Tiruldih, Ichagarh, Khukru and Nimdih thana areas in Chandil sub-division,” said Sinha.
The SP did not reveal the kind of forces and their number engaged in the anti-surgency operation in view of security reason, but confirmed about setting up a camp for the security personnel at Chowka.
“Chowka police station is a strategic location. Being in the middle of Tiruldih and Kharsawan, we have set up the security camp there so that movement of forces can be made on either Tiruldih or Kharsawan in complaratively less time during a period of emergency,” said the senior police officer.
Sinha, however, could not confirm whether it was the Maharaj Pramanik’s squad behind the killing of five police men at Khukrudih weekly haat.
According to a source in the police, the special operation at both Khukru-Tiruldih-Ichagarh axis and Kharsawan-Kuchai will be closely monitored by DGP continuously unless the rebels are not flushed out.
Meanwhile the administration has increased police patrolling on the bordering areas connecting to West Bengal and has also deployed adequate number of paramilitary personnel on areas potential to rebels attack.
” Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure security of the people. This time all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines,” said another official.
Sources informed that the mobility of the police has prevented the extremists from carrying out any violent activity in past few days in the entire Kolhan. All the police stations in the three districts of the division including East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan have been asked to beef up the security and keep a vigil at the bordering areas.
