Jamshedpur, May 24: Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists and the family members of the Mango firing victim met the East Singhbhum senior SP, Anoop T Mathew, on Tuesday and protested against the police inaction against those involved in the incident at Jawaharnagar in Mango.

A 22-year-old youth was seriously injured in the firing.

The protesters led by BJYM’s district unit president Vikash Singh demanded the arrest of all those involved in the firing incident, and also demanded action against a section of police officials who had allegedly thrashed the family members and sympathizers by resorting to lathi-charge.

In absence of SSP they met the superintendent of police (city) Chandan Jha and handed him over a memorandum addressed to the senior SP.

In the memorandum, Ramanand Singh, father of the gun-shot victim’s father has said that soon after a group of anti-social elements had shot at and injured his son, he along with his nephews Pintu and Vishal Singh had reached the spot, where a patrolling vehicle of the PCR had come.

“We want justice. As we urged the policemen in the police vehicle to apprehend those shot at my son, the cops did pay heed to our pleas and instead started thrashing us with sticks.  As a result of which I had a fractured hand and my nephews were also injured serious,” Singh has said in the memorandum while demanding action against the guilty police men.

The BJYM leader Vikash Singh said the police are dealing with this case in most dilly-dally way and have arrested only one person where as the other five or six accused have absconded.  He has demanded the City SP to immediately arrest the accused or start process of `kurki-jabti’ against those absconders.

Jha has assured the delegation of the saffron brigade that they are serious over the Mango firing incident and would take necessary action soon.

A gang of criminals shot at and injured a 22-year-old youth as the victim had protested the anti-social activities near his house on Road No 4 in Jawaharnagar under Mango police station area late last night.
