Jamshedpur: Unidentified assailants shot dead an auto-rickshaw driver in Tamulia under Chandil police station area in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Om Prakash, a resident of Kapali. His bullet-ridden body was found near his house in the morning.
Senior police officials including SDPO Chandil reached the scene and began investigation into the killing. According to the SDPO, Om Prakash was standing outside his house when the assailants came there and opened fire on him from close distance. The victim fell on the ground. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced brought dead. The killers decamped before local residents could rush to the scene, sources said.
Irked over the incident, local residents blocked the main road for several hours and demanded arresting of the culprits.
Sources said the deceased had gone to a wedding ceremony in Baridih Tuesday evening. Later, he went to Bramhananda Hospital to drop someone and returned home. On his return, he was gunned down. Om Prakash sustained four bullets in his back, one in chest and one near his temple, sources said.
