Driver loses control on being chased by robbers

Jamshedpur, Feb 12: A major accident was averted in the city on Tuesday when a gas tanker turned turtle on the main road near Marine Drive under Sakchi police station area. Fortunately, the tanker which was full with LPG, did not leak or catch fire, much to the relief of city police.
Sources said the incident occurred in the wee hours when the tanker driver lost control over the vehicle. The driver was driving at speed in a bid to get rid of unidentified robbers who reportedly chased the tanker in a car on the tanker’s entry into the city.
The tanker was coming all the way from Haldia to Jamshedpur plant. Sensing danger, the tanker driver sped up, but lost control as he tried to negotiate a sharp turn near Marine Drive roundabout.
Sakchi police rushed to the scene soon after getting information about the mishap. Cops called experts to find out if the tanker was leaking. They heaved a sigh of relief on coming to know that the tanker was intact. Two cranes were called to the spot in the morning to remove the tanker. Two fire tenders were also pressed into service as a precautionary measure. Traffic on the road was affected for several hours. It became normal after noon.
